THC – WHAT’S ALL THE BUZZ ABOUT?

It’s hard to read about cannabis without hearing about THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) – cannabis’ most plentiful and well-known active ingredient. But what is THC and why is it so popular?

THC is a powerful cannabinoid (a chemical which occurs naturally in the cannabis plant) and it’s best known for producing a powerfully psychoactive and euphoric high. But this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to THC. This cannabinoid provides many of cannabis’ most popular medicinal and recreational effects.

For one thing, THC can produce strong pain relief, which is one of the main ways it is utilized. It can also work like an antidepressant, uplifting a depressed mood and calming anxiety. In addition, it can be helpful for issues like sleep disorders, muscle spasms, and nausea. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s also a powerful neuroprotectant, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory agent.

Still, for some, the psychoactive high of THC can sometimes be overwhelming, especially for those new to cannabis. It can come with side effects like anxiety, rapid heart-rate, and increased appetite (a.k.a. munchies). Luckily, many of these side effects are lessened or eliminated when THC is combined with other cannabinoids such as CBD.

Depending on the terpenes in a cannabis strain, the end result could feel very different. Take for example the difference between three strains from 7 Acres. Their strains Jack Haze, Sensi Star, and Jean Guy all have similar levels of THC, but give different effects. The Sensi Star for example is more of a sedative or bed-time strain, while the Jack Haze is more of an energetic or day-time strain.

If you’re new to cannabis, it’s best to start with small doses of THC and increase slowly at first until you learn what dose works best for you. You can always learn more about the THC and terpene profile in your cannabis products by checking their test results.
